Virtual ECS (V-ECS) Online Program

Virtual Learning Program Options, K-5 (2020-21)

ECS is proud to offer two K-5 virtual learning program options to meet the needs of students and families learning from home.  Students in our virtual programs are offered concurrent learning opportunities, allowing them to engage in live class lessons with their in-person classmates.  Students will engage daily with teachers and classmates through live instruction, small group meetings, and virtual Chapel.  Students enrolled in Virtual-ECS participate in core and specialist lessons along with science and social studies, while those in Virtual ECS Flex focus on the core lessons of reading, writing, math and Bible.  Students in both programs will enjoy lunch time and field trips with their virtual classmates.

Virtual-ECS
Ideal for families desiring a full school day experience for their at-home students.

Virtual-ECS Flex
Ideal for families desiring a more flexible, shorter online school experience for their at-home students.

Additional Details of our Virtual-ECS Programs

  • Concurrent Program:  Students learning from home virtually attend live class instruction time with on-campus students.
  • Combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities:
    • Synchronous learning: Live video lessons, large and small group meetings, virtual field trips, and live Chapel.
    • Asynchronous learning: Lessons that kids can access at anytime through prerecorded videos and other digital learning content made available.
  • Uniform Learning Platform:  Microsoft Teams is our selected platform for all grade levels to ensure a consistent high-quality learning program.
  • Daily Live Instruction:  Students will receive 12-15 hours of live instruction sessions from their grade level teachers and may also participate in an additional 4 hours of live Chapel, PE, music, and art per week.
  • Grade Level Teaching Teams:  Within each grade level teachers share the online and on-campus teaching responsibilities.

Access to Live Instruction sessions includes:

  • Daily live instruction from a teacher to the whole or parts of the class.
  • Several short lessons, which are optimal for student attention spans (rather than lengthy lectures).
  • Students interacting with one another online as a whole class or in small groups.
  • Small group or 1:1 instruction online.
  • Instructional time for the core subjects of reading, writing, and math in the mornings.
  • Other opportunities for academic, Biblical, and social-emotional learning.

No.  While Live Instruction is accessed online, students will also be encouraged to do offline learning and classwork throughout the school day.

We encourage our students to attend all the live lessons as indicated on the schedule. While live lessons are recorded, they may not be available for review until a couple of days later. Asynchronous (pre-recorded) lessons may be done at any time during the day.

We understand that circumstances can change and we are here to support your family. We have put safety protocols in place to keep staff and students safe and minimize the risk of COVID19 spread on campus.

For our students who elect to begin each trimester participating in ECS’s online (Virtual) program, a negative COVID-19 test result dated within 72 hours will have to be provided to the school in advance of a student changing from Virtual ECS to our at-school program. In addition we ask that families give five business days’ notice to our Virtual ECS Program Director, Helena Lee, to ensure classroom modifications are made for the student’s transition to our on campus program.

If necessary, a student may transition from Virtual-Flex to Virtual and vice versa. We strongly encourage you, however, to consider making this transition at the end of the 1st or 2nd trimester to ensure that the grade assigned to the student accurately reflects his or her progress.  Requests for change should be emailed to our Virtual ECS Program Director, Helena Lee, hlee@ecswa.org.

Virtual Flex is designed for families who desire to have more flexibility and a shortened school day. The Virtual-Flex program day officially ends at 12:30pm. However, Virtual-Flex K-5 grade students may audit Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, PE, and Spanish, which are offered in the afternoons. Grades will not be assigned for these 6 subjects.

Yes. In older grades, attendance may be a considerable part of their participation grade.

We are asking Virtual ECS students to adhere to the ECS dress code including the chapel sweater on Monday.

Each student will receive instruction from at least one (and typically two) grade-level, certificated teachers. Students within a grade may also be assisted by their dedicated classroom aide.

Our experiences this past Spring have helped us learn what works well and what changes are needed to provide an optimized online education.  Improvements to our 2020-21 virtual program include:

  • Concurrent learning opportunities, allowing students to engage in live class lessons with their in-person classmates.
  • Students will engage daily with teachers and classmates through live instruction, small group meetings, and community building activities.
  • Use of a common delivery platform, Microsoft Teams, to ensure a consistent high-quality learning program for all grade levels.
  • A dramatic increase to 12-15 hours of live instruction sessions from elementary teachers, with  and an additional 4 hours of live Chapel, PE, Music, and Art per week.

Virtual Learning Program for Middle School (2020-21)

The ECS Middle School virtual learning program offers students in 6th-8th grade a full day learning schedule.  The daily schedule includes five core classes (Bible, English, History, Math and Science), along with two additional elective classes per trimester.  Students will receive concurrent whole-class instruction along with their in-person peers, with the opportunity for small group work to sustain engagement in the online learning format.  Each of our middle school students is assigned a personal laptop for their use, along with technology training and support throughout the year.

We are working diligently to provide our students with an education that prioritizes academic standards, spiritual growth, and personal connections between teachers and peers, which are essential to our emotional health.

From our wonderful Moms-in-Prayer group, who invite you to prayerfully read and find solace in the Word of God:

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7

“We want to again compliment your staff for all they’ve done this year to pivot and quickly build a virtual school.  Hats off to the entire staff for working so diligently to maintain community and high levels of learning.  As parents working from home, we see the communication we need and have a teacher of the highest quality, as evidenced in her relationships with students (lots of love notes and gentle pushing to excellence) and in academics.”

“I have been so happy and appreciative of the online school instruction my son has received from ECS. The conversion to online classes was seamless, the work load is manageable, the students are kept busy, and their assignments are corrected quickly. The teachers have also been AMAZING! They are readily available to answer questions, teach classes and encourage the kids. Their communication to the students and their teaching have been first class.”
