In Person Classes, with Temporary Remote Learning Option

ECS plans to begin the 2022-23 school year under normal operating conditions, with no COVID-specific restrictions for the academic school day or after-school programming, athletic activities, or events.  We will continue to offer a temporary online option for our 6th-8th grade middle school students during the 2022-23 school year (Preschool-5th Grade classes will meet in person only).

While we will not have a permanent online program this year, we have found that our middle school programs are most suited for temporary online transitions, if needed. Therefore we will offer our middle school classes online for students who want to utilize temporary online learning due to long-term illnesses or COVID.  We are referring to these situations as the “Temporary Remote Learning Option” (TRLO).  Click on the “+” to the left of the TRLO option below to learn more.  Our elementary and preschool teachers will offer take-home classwork packets upon request, for those students who need to remain home due to illness.

ECS will continue to adhere to public health protocols as needed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and any other communicable disease.  We will continue to monitor the latest guidance from the department of health and notify families should a significant change to our protocols become necessary.

Middle School Temporary Remote Learning Option (TRLO)

While we will not have a permanent online program next year, there may be times when individuals need to utilize online learning temporarily due to long-term illnesses or COVID.  We are referring to these situations as the “Temporary Remote Learning Option” (TRLO).

The Difference between Concurrent & Temporary Remote Learning Option (TRLO)

  1. TRLO is an individual program, unlike our school-wide 2020-21 concurrent program. TRLO Live stream will be provided for the 5 core subjects. Middle school core subject classes (English, History, Science, Math, and Bible) will be streamed during instructional time when the class is doing something the teacher considers vital for the students at home, such as introducing new concepts, conducting a science lab, or reviewing for an upcoming test. TRLO students will be expected to log in at the beginning of each class to receive directions.
  2. MS students can access TRLO immediately, as long as PARENTS request TRLO by 8 AM and receive approval.  All TRLO requests should be sent to Mrs. G at agay@ecswa.org.  If approved, the student may participate in TRLO at 8:40 AM that day. TRLO students will be limited to observing the class and will not be able to interact with teachers/classmates. This will allow teachers to provide challenging and appropriately paced lessons for the students in class.
  3. TRLO students must live stream for a minimum of 3 school days and a maximum of 10 school days. TRLO is designed for students who will be absent for at least 3-5 days. If a student is approved for TRLO on a Monday morning, the student must be on TRLO until Wednesday at 2:30 PM or longer, but not to exceed 10 school days. If a student is expected to be absent for less than 3 days, we recommend using OneNote and TEAMS to keep up with classwork. 
  1. TRLO is NOT to be used for vacation. Vacationers cannot stream but can access OneNote. If quarantining is necessary after a vacation, TRLO can be utilized at the start of quarantine (Refer to #3).

Frequently Asked Questions

The ECS staff and community worked diligently this past year to follow government, health, and school agency regulations, best practices, and programming recommendations that helped us create a safe educational environment.  We plan to continue to follow state and OSPI safety protocols, including

  • practicing physical distancing as a general rule
  • wearing face coverings as needed
  • encouraging outdoor movement of students as they cross the campus
  • encouraging grade-level cohorts
  • providing desk/table shields
  • daily cleaning

Students will be asked to stay home if they exhibit any coughing, sneezing, or fever.  Pre-purchased lunches will be delivered to the classroom door.  Students will also have access to their own desk and learning materials upon request.

We believe that we’re taking every reasonable precaution to greatly lower the chance of transmission and provide a safe environment for in-person schooling.

Your child will be able to come to school every day (full days, Monday-Friday). We believe the ideal learning model for preschool, elementary and middle school students is in-person in the classroom environment.  Unless a student is out sick, we expect that students will attend school in-person each day.

Our TRLO program model allows for seamless movement between the in-person classroom experience and the virtual experience at home.  If a classroom cohort or the entire school is forced to close for a time due to health concerns, students will be able to transition immediately to the virtual program and continue their learning remotely until we are able to return to school.

Students may still pre-purchase lunch through our school cafeteria program.  Purchased lunches will be delivered to the classroom door prior to the lunch period.  Students may also choose to bring their own lunch from home.  Students in our K-5 grades will eat lunch at their classroom desk with a desktop shield in place while masks are removed during eating.  We also plan to continue to offer the option to eat outside (weather permitting), with physical distancing measures, so our kids can receive the health benefits of eating outdoors.

Yes, family members will be allowed to park their car and walk their child to the doors of their child’s classrooms.  After-school pick-up will be similar, and parents may wait outside classroom doors for their student to be released at the end of the day.

Yes, opportunities for on-campus and off-campus volunteering will be available this year.  Teachers may request in-person volunteer support in their classroom, or virtual parent assistance that can be completed off campus.  Teachers and the front office will communicate those requests via email or the school newsletter.

We plan to offer after-school care and programs, along with our normal athletics program, in 2022-23. Parents must register for these programs in advance. Drop-in care will not be available.  More details will be shared with families who are enrolled via email or newsletter.

To aid in air flow, classroom windows will be opened as much as possible throughout the day. Weather permitting some lessons and classes may be held outside as well. Students are encouraged to always bring a jacket to allow for open windows and possible class outside.  HVAC systems will be serviced regularly and filters will be changed regularly.

We do not have any assurances, and Eastside Christian School will follow all mandates put forth by the Governor concerning on-campus learning.
