Why ECS Feels Different: A Teacher’s Perspective on Faith, Joy, and Community
I am someone who spent what feels like a lifetime (38 years) in the public school system. I believe there are students who need us wherever God has placed us, but I can now clearly see the difference between that environment and the one here at ECS.
From the moment I walked through the door, I could feel that difference. It had nothing to do with the beautifully decorated walls or the facility—it was something deeper. The people who greeted me and those who interviewed me made it immediately evident. I could see God’s love in their eyes, and it filled my heart with peace. At first, I couldn’t believe a place like this existed—and then I was given the opportunity to be part of it. I left my public school career to teach at ECS, and more and more became clear: the people who work here live Christ-centered lives and are deeply committed to leading students in a Christ-filled education.
The students are genuinely excited to come to school. They begin their week in chapel, led by a caring and thoughtful pastoral leader, and close in prayer with a loving principal. This rhythm sets the tone for the entire week. Students feel loved and see, by example, the love of Jesus in every teacher who stands before them. Because of this, students feel emotionally safe at ECS, and they grow deeper in their faith as we grow together as a community.
The thing that stands out most is joy. This is not a joy brought on by the world—it is a joy that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. As we near the end of the school year, I do not see the burnout that is so common in public schools. I do not see students counting down the days until summer. Instead, we feel like a family. With God by our side, we know that all things are possible, and both students and staff grow and thrive in an academically rich, Christ-filled learning environment.
I only wish my own children were young again so they could experience a place like this. ECS is truly a very special place to be, and I am grateful to be a part of it.
