K-8 initiatives for STEM and STEAM are so important. As society continues to advance in science, technology, engineering and math, we aim to teach skills our students will need to be successful working in these industries.

We are instilling a passion for STEM into today’s students so that they are prepared and excited to take on STEM jobs in their futures. To develop a passion for STEM, students need to experience STEM subjects in an engaging, exciting, and hands-on way.  We are providing these experiences in the classroom to ensure our students finish school with a strong foundational knowledge in STEM and related skills. Our hope is that our students are inspired to take on more challenging STEM subjects in high school and college.

One newer STEM offering at ECS is the use of a 3D printer and software. 3D printing is currently being used in a variety of industries, including aerospace, architecture, automotive, consumer electronics, dental, and medical. Creating things like 3D printed rooms, clothing, cars and implants / prosthetics, 3D printers are revolutionizing the way we design and create hundreds of products across the US and the world.

Donations from our generous community allowed us to purchase a Lulzbot 3D printer for use in our middle school programs.  By introducing this STEM opportunity, our students are learning a number of skills including 3D modeling, creativity, technology literacy, problem-solving, self-directed learning, critical thinking, and perseverance. Visit the classroom and you will see and hear our students’ wonder and excitement as they fully immerse themselves in this new learning!

We are excited to bring this technology to our school and help our students gain another valuable 21st century skill set. Creating 3D projects prepares our students for life and work in a digital age.
