Open Positions for 2026-27

Eastside Christian School is a private Christian school dedicated to “Academic Excellence with a Commitment to Christ.” Located in the Eastgate area of Bellevue, ECS serves over 270 Preschool through 8th grade students. We are currently seeking the following:

K-8 Substitute Teacher 2026-27

Reports To: Principal
Employment Type: Temporary / Substitute
Schedule: As needed; daily schedule follows the assigned classroom and school schedule

Position Summary

The K–8 Substitute Teacher provides continuity of instruction, supervision, and care for students when a regular teacher is absent. The Substitute Teacher follows the plans and instructional objectives provided by the classroom teacher, maintains a positive and orderly learning environment, and supports the academic, social, and spiritual development of students in alignment with the mission and values of Eastside Christian School.

The Substitute Teacher serves as a positive Christian role model and represents Eastside Christian School professionally in interactions with students, families, faculty, staff, and administration.

Essential Responsibilities

Instruction & Learning

  • Follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and instructional directions provided by the regular teacher.
  • Implement established curriculum and instructional objectives for the assigned class(es).
  • Present instruction using appropriate methods and materials suited to students’ developmental and academic needs.
  • Provide appropriate support and encouragement to students as they engage in assigned learning activities.
  • Maintain continuity of the classroom program during the regular teacher’s absence.
  • Communicate relevant information about the day’s activities, student progress, concerns, or significant incidents to the regular teacher and/or appropriate administrator.

Classroom Management & Student Supervision

  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Establish and reinforce appropriate classroom expectations and procedures.
  • Use effective and respectful behavior-management strategies.
  • Supervise students appropriately during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, and other assigned duties.
  • Follow all school procedures related to student safety, supervision, and emergency situations.
  • Respond appropriately to student needs and seek assistance from administration when necessary.

Christian Education & Student Development

  • Model a Christ-centered life and conduct that reflects the mission and values of Eastside Christian School.
  • Encourage students in their academic, personal, relational, and spiritual growth.
  • Interact with students in a Christ-honoring manner and contribute to an environment in which students are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
  • Support the integration of biblical truth and Christian principles within the classroom as directed by the regular teacher and school administration.
  • Serve as a positive Christian role model for students.

Communication & Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately with students and adults.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.
  • Follow Eastside Christian School policies, procedures, and administrative direction.
  • Use school technology and equipment appropriately and responsibly.
  • Complete other duties reasonably assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration.


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, or other qualifications acceptable to Eastside Christian School.
  • Current Washington State teaching certificate, when applicable to the assignment; credentials from other states may be considered.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification by the beginning of the school year, when required.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage a classroom and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Basic proficiency with commonly used educational and office technology.
  • Ability to work effectively with students across the K–8 age range.
  • Commitment to working with students in a Christ-honoring manner.

Preferred

  • Prior classroom teaching or substitute teaching experience.
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Familiarity with Christian education.

Physical & Other Requirements

The Substitute Teacher must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, including communicating effectively with students and adults, supervising students, moving throughout the classroom and campus, and responding appropriately to student and safety needs.


Salary:

The substitute teacher rate for 2026-27 is $27.70 per hour.
